This Friday the school will hold a very special ‘Jersey Day’ fundraiser for one of our 3rd class pupils, Rúairí Matthews, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment and is presently receiving specialised care in Manchester Hospital. Rúairí is a fantastic, brave young boy who is sliowing great courage and we hope to see him back among his friends here in school very soon. Further details of Ruairí’s journey and a fundraising effort for the Gavin Glynn Foundation who are assisting Rúairí is explained by Rúairí’s mum, Catherine, at the following link: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/11459786 . It is very reassuring to know that Rúairí and his family are getting the expertise and support that they require during this extremely difficult time.

In an effort to show our support, we will have a Jersey Day in school this Friday. One of Rúairí’s passions in life is football, so we encourage all of our pupils to ‘Wear a Jersey for Rúairí ‘ and bring in a donation to school on Friday. All proceeds collected will be forwarded to the family’s fundraiser in aid of the Gavin Glynn Foundation. We will also be making some short videos of best wishes to send to Rúairí to let him know that all of his friends in the Friary Boys’ school are fully behind him.

Finally, we ask everyone in our school community to keep Rúairí and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he continues his brave and courageous battle.
