4th Clinch Golden Boot Award for June

Congratulations to Ms Ronan’s 4th Class who clinched this months Golen Boot Award. This is an award given to the clas who has accumultaed the most pupils who travel to school using sustainable methods such as walk, cycle or park ‘n’ stride. This months award was a very prestigious one as it coincided with our Bike Week and the huge improvement in the weather. This gave pupils a great opportunity to use sustainable methods of travel. Well done to all who have changed their travel behaviours and a special mention to our parents/guardians for supporting our Green Schools initiaitve.

Bike Week 2023

Our yard was a hive of activity this morning as the 3 groups of boys from 2nd – 6th Class who cycled to school with a helmet took part in our Bike skills Workshop for Bike Week 2023. A huge thanks to our organising partner, Barry Casey from Louth Sports Partnership and Karl Doran from the Bike Station for taking the time to visit us and show the boys useful everyday skills including direction signals, cycle the plank and the slow race! Last but certainly not least, a big thanks to Ms Ronan and Ms McNally for organising what has been a brilliantly successful Bike week. However, it could noty have been such a success without our parent and pupil commitment.

Here is a snippet of how the boys felt about having WOW days back…..

Walk To School Week 2021

This week is officially Walk To School Week. Wednesday is a national WOW day. With the weather picking up Ms Ronan is asking that you make the extra effort to walk to school as much as possible this week. If you can’t walk the whole way maybe you could consider ‘Park n Stride’.

We are now in the 4th week of May which means Ms Ronan will be awarding the virtual Golden Boot to the winning class next week.

The bicycle shelter is filling up fast too which is great to see. Remember to wear your helmet when cycling & dismount at the gate. Do not cycle in the yard.

Check out Jane Hackett’s video below on Walk To School Week!!

Green Schools – Another Flag Awarded in November 2020

The Green Schools Awards were held online on November 11th. Ms Ronan and the Green Schools committee were delighted to be presented with the schools 4th flag for the ‘Travel’ theme.

All pupils, families and staff played a huge part in earning this particular flag over the past two years. The committee would like to express a special thank you to everyone who walked, cycled, parked n’ strided and carpooled. We appreciate it wasn’t always easy on those wet days but your efforts really paid off. We really hope you continue to use Greener methods of Travel in the future.

Along with the new bicycle shelter, you may have noticed new road markings around our school entrances and resurfacing works in the local area. The Green Schools committee contributed significantly to these developments.

Keep an eye out to see our newest flag billowing in the wind on Anne Street very soon.

Traffic Survey

Mr O’Connell’s class took part in a traffic survey this week as part of our continous Green Flag work. It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to put their work on data into real-life practice and a chance to understand the vast amount of traffic that flows around our school everyday. Another of this week’s Green Flag activities included a cycle audit whereby some boys cycled around parts of Dundalk, this helped us to highlight areas that could be inproved for cyclists.

Cycle Safety Workshop

Many thanks to Sorcha, our An Taisce Travel Officer who came to visit us this week for our ‘Cycle Safety Workshop’. The workshop consisted of the boys working on all the safety elements of cycling such as signalling, cycling in single file and in groups, checking helmets, understanding the primary and secondary positions on a road and how to manouever between them coming up to junctions such as T-junctions. The boys really enjoyed the workshop and we hope it will help them to stay safe while cycling to and from school. Great initiative and once again thanks to both Ms Ronan and Sorcha for the organisation of the initiative.
