On Monday, our U13’s GAA team, with representatives from both 5th and 6th class took on Scoil Mhuire na nGael in the Corn Bhliain Mhuire Quarter Final. The game, very similar to the clash the previous year was a fantastically entertaining spectacle. St Malachy’s started the better of the two teams finding the net a number of times in the first quarter of the game and looked to be well in control. However, by half time Bay Estate had pulled the game back to 5 points and they themselves found the net a number of times in the second half. The game was all level with little or nothing between the teams. Thanks to some last ditch defending St Malachy’s scrambled the ball of the line late on with a double save from the keeper. It was in the last quarter of the match that St malachy’s found a little more space up front and took full advantage to edge ahead at the final whistle. Well done to both teams who displayed excellent skill and a never say die attitude. The match was played in very good spirits and we hope the healthy rivalry continues in the coming years.
