In the Friary Boys’, we have kept what has become the tradition of a winter yard league. This is known as ‘The Friary World Cup’. This competition allows all players from 3rd – 6th to mix into Junior and Senior soccer teams and play against one another. Usually at lunchtime the boys play in their own class groups but this allows them to mix and get to know other people from other classes.
This last two weeks the boys took some time to get to know their team through friendlies, we then ran off the group stages and now we are into the knockout stages. All teams entered the quarter finals with some teams progressing to a semi-final and just two teams in each of the Junior and Senior going forward to a final.
Update:
Our semi-finals and finals took place after the parents’ assembly and what a day of competition it was. Our Junior finalists were Brazil and France with France coming out on top with a 2-0 win while Ireland claimed the Senior world cup in a hard fought 2-1 victory over Argentina.
